In 2019, Build Love launched an open application process and after evaluating each applicants’ eligibility and the scope of their renovation needs, the Gorski family was selected as the project recipient. Bonnie Gorski has been living with multiple sclerosis (MS) for most of her adult life. With Saskatchewan having the highest rate of MS in Canada, and Canada having one of the highest rates of this disease in the world, it’s a subject that is very close to the hearts of many involved.
Bonnie’s husband Stuart is her greatest champion and primary caregiver, with support from their adult sons, Sam and Jack. With rapidly declining mobility, Bonnie was unable to enter and move throughout their home without assistance. At the age of 50, she was facing the inevitability of moving to a long-term care facility and away from her family.
Build Love, now a core group of over 15 with over 100 sponsors and a network of upwards of 400 volunteers, completed the renovation to redesign the home to accommodate Bonnie’s current and future accessibility needs. This allowed her to continue living with her husband and give her the quality of life every person deserves.
